EMR Sports Certification is a comprehensive and well-respected certification for sports medicine professionals who want to provide emergency care to athletes. Our Emergency Medical Responder Sports Certification is designed for clinicians seeking specialized training in the emergency management of athletes at sidelines and sporting events. This course integrates objectives from the American Red Cross, American Heart Association, and the most recent research and journals for emergency medical management of athletes. Upon completion of this course, you will be certified as an Emergency Medical Responder and BLS/CPR trained.
EMR – Sports Edition Certification is Occupational Safety and Health Administration compliant, also fulfilling the requirements to become eligible to apply for the ABPTS – Sports Certified Specialist Exam. This course is one of the Acute Management of Injury and Illness Courses Approved by ABPTS Sports Specialty Council for Initial Certification, Recertification and Maintenance.
Approved by the CPTA and other states for physical therapists, as well as by the BOC for athletic trainers and other healthcare professionals. The EMR Sports Certification is a hybrid course that combines live, in-person hands-on demonstrations with self-study components. It includes both didactic and clinical instruction delivered in-person.

Learning Objectives
- Identify and evaluate primary and secondary assessment for medical emergency, examination, and clinical judgment on injured individuals.
- Recognize warning signs during emergent injuries and determine when to alert EMS.
- Recognize, respond, assess, and provide treatment for acute athletic injuries.
- Identify and distinguish head, spine, organ, and musculoskeletal injuries.
- Identify environmental factors that affect the young and older athlete, the female triad, and athletes with disabilities.
- Demonstrate and perform immobilization techniques such as athletic taping, splinting, and spine boarding.
- Determine proper protocols to take when an athlete had experienced a concussion.
- Fulfill requirements to become a Certified Emergency Medical Responder and CPR/AED for 2 years and eligible to apply for the ABPTS – Sports Certified Specialist Exam.
